Day16: Itero de la Vega to Villalcazar (Sun 10th Oct)

Is all over 10.10.10 today! Having an awesome brekky at Boadilla, cafe con leche I love you, and greatly appreciated after a 10km cold N windy food and drinkless start ;-) another 31km day YAY - meeting some awesome ppl ;-). The scenery is still stark but weirdly appealing and still great to photograph.

Through Fromista which was bland and ugly onto Poblacion de Campos where the rain clouds started....and finally dropped their buckets on us at Villovieco....was a drenching and a half and also beautiful after it stopped.

Arrived in Villalcazar - 31km and 8.5hrs and a drenching!! But feet holding up ok, still crazy pain but I'm getting used to the pain and the feet are slowly getting used to doing what they're told!!!! ;-) boots soaked but not on the inside but all the wet weather gear sorely tested and worked a treat - they also create a sauna.  I have a new nickname...."Lady Heartbreak" LOL.

Another small but ok Alburgue but the difference here is the welcome - what a wonderful warm man he is - the owner of the Alburgue and so pleasant and helpful. He even drove around a 6km radius the next day to find the owner of a small toiletries item that was left behind. He provided brekky the next morning and had it all ready for us....this was a donation Alburgue, so you leave what you can afford - I tipped him big as his welcome and hospitality was exceptional.

One of our fellow Pilgrims took ill at the dinner table and he had told me 2 days earlier that he´d suffered a heart attack a few years ago - I think he is in his late 50´s or early 60´s - but he passed out and we called the emergency services and he went to hospital.  They delivered him back to the Alburgue at 2am and was all fine and checked - no heart or blood pressure issues they could find and put it down to doing TOO much and dehydration. Again the Alburgue owner was so considerate and worried and his attentiveness to Deiter was fantastic.

Deiter I hope you´re still being "kind to you"!! ;-)
